Jakob MORF

(Switzerland, 1922-2022)

Pages and pages of lined paper or graph paper covered with suns and flowers, embellished with images from the press make up Jakob Morf's work. He would have dreamed of being a gardener but he was a farm hand from an early age until he went into a nursing home, where he continued to work on the adjoining farm. It was in this context that, spontaneously, he began to produce art work in the evenings and at night, when his work was done. He did this from 1987 to 1992 and began a new block of work in 1997. It was in 1999 that a nurse discovered his work and helped to raise its profile. Jakob Morf's work can now be seen in several renowned Art Brut collections, including the Collection de l'Art Brut, the ABCD Bruno Decharme Collection and at the Création Franche.
