Tomoaki SAKAI
(Japan, 2001-)
Tomoaki Sakai seems to have developed an inexplicable cult for household appliances. From fridges to flat-screen TVs and washing machines, this young Japanese artist creates his small sculptures out of paper and tape with surgical precision. He presents a world that opens up to our gaze. In his world, a simple scribble represents a reflection, a piece of scotch tape, through skilful mastery, replaces the magnet, and where even the reproduction of the price of the appliance has its graphic importance.
